Guided Sandhill Crane Hunt in Texas Panhandle
Tahoka, TX
8-14 Hunters • Lodge • Private • Guided
Description
If you’ve never hunted sandhill cranes, you’re in for a rush. These wary, prehistoric-looking birds aren’t just another waterfowl hunt—they’re a challenge, an experience, and a bucket-list pursuit. And there’s no better place to do it than the Texas Panhandle, right in the heart of the Central Flyway.
The Setup
Before the sun even cracks the horizon, you roll out to a freshly scouted grain field where cranes have been feeding. These birds don’t just land anywhere—they’re careful, always watching, always thinking. That’s why we rely on full-body decoys and silhouettes to create a natural spread, giving incoming birds the confidence they need to commit.
You’ll settle into a comfortable panel blind, tucked into the field with plenty of cover. No lying in the dirt—this setup keeps you hidden but still gives you a front-row seat to the action. With chairs in the blind, you can relax and watch the morning unfold as the first flights begin their approach.
Morning hunts only.

Can’t say enough positive things about Jonathan and the rest of his crew! Second year coming up and had limits and out the field by 9:40 two outta three mornings. You’re not just another client here you’re treated like you’re the only client. Only outfit I’ll ever book with or recommend in west Tx! 100/10

On a scale of 1-10 I would give Caprock Waterfowl an 11. We have been hunting with Caprock for 5 years now when it come to west Texas geese and crane Jonathan and his guys know what they're doing. And unlike most guide services, they treat you more like family and less like a customer. Highly recommend.

My wife, son and I just finished a 3 day hunt with Caprock Waterfowl. Two days of cranes and one day of ducks. All three days were a success and we had a blast. We knocked off some bucket list birds for sure. Guides Colton and Chris were the best guides you could ask for. We will be rebooking a future hunt. Thank you Caprock!!
