A TRUE GETAWAY

Our Poker Creek camp is situated beyond the north end of Lake Alice and requires a horseback pack-in of seven miles. From our main trailhead, this horseback ride into our upper pack-in camp takes about 2 hours. All along the way to this upper Lake Alice Camp, the sheer beauty and awe-inspiring landscapes color the adventure in real-time. We never grow tired of the view even after all these years and many miles spent horseback in and out on this trail.

5 DAY ELK HUNT

All of our elk hunts are a full guided service that includes accommodations, meals, and snacks, and horses for packing in and out of camp. All food and accommodations included are provided in the camp.

WHAT WE SHOOT FOR

We are great proponents of the true “fair chase” hunting experience. Our method of hunting still brings with it the allure and thrill of the hunt where animals are still able to rely on all their keen senses to survive the “chase” uninhibited by fences, property boundaries, or any other means of artificial boundaries. You see, man’s hunting wit VS an animal’s instinct to survive always brings a more pure adventure to the whole hunting experience. In short, we have a whole lot of love and respect for the animals we hunt and the country we hunt them in. We feel a sacred responsibility to not ruin Mother Nature’s delicate balance in our quest for sharing the great outdoors with the public.

FULL-SERVICE HUNTS

These include full-time guides, all meals, accommodations, horses and riding equipment, game care, and packing during the duration of the hunt. Ordinarily, it will be at the ratio of one guide per two hunters or one guide per hunter. Just bring your sleeping bag, personal gear, and hunting equipment and we will take care of the rest.

GAME CARE

Custom processors are available in the area to skin, cut, wrap and freeze your game, and prepare it for shipment. We can also refer you to an area taxidermist.

Non-hunters can be included for an additional fee.

Rules & Guidelines

GENERAL INFORMATION FOR NON-RESIDENTS

A non-resident of Wyoming must enter a draw to have a chance at acquiring a license to hunt in the state. To draw out, you must accumulate the needed number of preference points. When you put in for the hunt of choice, it is required that you purchase the Hunting License at that time. If you draw out, the license and a copy of the regulations will be mailed to you within 15 days of the draw results. If you don’t draw out, then they will reimburse you, minus the nonrefundable application fee of $15.

HUNTER/GUIDE RATIO

With each of our hunts we strive to have one guide available for every two hunters to give you the best possible opportunity to fill your tag.

ARCHERY vs RIFLE PRICING

Currently the price for rifle or archery hunts remains the same. The general elk and deer tags purchased through the state of Wyoming can be used during the archery season with the purchase of an additional archery license which costs an additional $72 for non-resident hunters.

BOOKING POLICY

We operate on a first-come, first-serve basis. We encourage interested parties to promptly submit a booking request through Venku. Once we receive your request, we will finalize dates for your trip and accept your request.

For hunts, if you do not draw out, you will be refunded your deposit within two weeks. Optionally, you can use that money to book a hunt for the following year or until a license and tag can be obtained.

REFUND POLICY

Please note, there is a 50% nonrefundable deposit included with your payment when booking.

GEAR LIST

A good sleeping bag

We suggest bringing one that is rated for 0°F during the archery season and -20°F for rifle season.

There have been years when we wake up to snow on the ground, so a warm sleeping bag is a must for a comfortable trip. We have stoves for the tents during the rifle hunts.

We also provide nice cots and foam mattress pads for sleeping on in our canvas tents.

Warm and cold gear

Layering up is the best way to enjoy your trip and stay warm. We highly recommend good wool socks, good base layers or similar high-tech fabrics. We’ve found that wool dries out better next to wood stoves without damaging the fabric as easily. Overall, wool is great stuff!

Bring good water-resistant gear that will hold up to the rigors of hiking or riding a horse through the trees and brush. Avoid fabrics that tear or snag easily. Remember, you can always take it off if you don’t need it, but you can’t put it on if you don’t have it.

Hunting Boots

We recommend you bring waterproof boots with good traction and stiff soles with good ankle supports. If possible, bring a couple options in this area. Sometimes it’s nice to put on a dry pair of boots to start the day off while the other pair is drying by a fire. We’ve found it good to have a boot that will handle the normal fall temps and the other one for snow and colder temps. In both cases they should be boots with good foot support that you can hike in comfortably.

Gloves

Gloves are critical to your comfort. It’s good to have several pairs accessible depending on weather conditions: leather, leather lined, waterproof and insulated, wool, etc. It always seems like it’s cold, sometimes dry and sometimes wet, so it is nice to know you have more than one pair to meet the elements of the day. We strongly suggest storing your gloves in a plastic 1 gallon slider-top bag to keep them dry when not in use.

House Shoes or Slippers

To wear after hours, or comfortable shoes that are easy to slip on and off.

Personal toiletry and medication items

You may want to include a towel as we have a shower tent hooked up and available.

Flashlights and headlamps with extra batteries.

We have a generator that powers some light around camp until we turn in for the night.

Personal device chargers.

When the generator is running, we have a plug-in available in the tents. There is no cell service from camp, but on occasion while atop the highest mountains we get some limited cell service.

Meat Bags

Personal snacksYou may have some personal snack items unique to your tastes, but we do provide snack foods with your sack lunches.
