Shane's Trip

Shane M

I cut my teeth hunting whitetails in the east and for as long as I can remember. I looked forward to hunting season each year with my dad and uncle and brother. At an early stage in life hunting was a part of our life and it meant more than just the harvest itself. For me it was about learning the habits of the animal and comradery of friends and family. Its more than just saying I harvested a world class animal, I pride myself in sharing what I was taught through the network of the hunting industry.

Rules & Guidelines

Hunting mule deer in Washington State requires adherence to specific regulations set by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW).

Hunters must possess a valid big game hunting license that includes deer as a species option, along with the appropriate tag corresponding to their chosen hunting method—be it modern firearm, archery, or muzzleloader.

The state is divided into Game Management Units (GMUs), each with designated seasons and legal deer classifications, such as "any buck" or "3-point minimum," indicating the required number of antler points on one side.

Bag limits typically restrict hunters to one deer per license year, unless otherwise specified by department rules.

Additionally, during modern firearm seasons, hunters are mandated to wear hunter orange or pink for safety. Given the variability in regulations across different GMUs and hunting methods, it's crucial to consult the latest WDFW hunting regulations pamphlet for detailed and up-to-date information.
