Your Experience

Southeast Texas is a diverse place with many different landscapes including gentle hills, forests, and wide-open fields with crops like corn and milo that are perfect for dove hunting.

Dove hunting in Southeast Texas is a cherished tradition that brings together both seasoned hunters and newcomers alike. Renowned for its rich biodiversity and abundant agricultural fields, this region offers an ideal habitat for migratory doves. As September rolls around, hunters gather in anticipation of opening day. The heart-pounding thrill of spotting a flock of doves, followed by the swift crack of shotguns, echoes across the open plains. It is a time-honored tradition that not only celebrates the joy of hunting but also fosters a deep appreciation for nature and camaraderie.

This is the backdrop for our hunters who want to enjoy a full day of dove hunting in the beautiful South Texas countryside. We hunt over corn and milo fields that have been planted with sunflowers on the edges.

I have private river access if you want to BBQ or I can arrange catering for your groups for lunch.

Last season was great and I’m looking forward to this year! We had great success on our hunts through September.

Rules & Guidelines

To go dove hunting in Texas, a hunter needs to be well-prepared with the following essentials:

  • Hunting License: A valid Texas hunting license is a must for all hunters, including residents and non-residents. It is essential to comply with state regulations and to purchase the appropriate hunting license for the desired hunting period.

  • Migratory Bird Endorsement: In addition to a general hunting license, hunters targeting migratory birds, including doves, must obtain a Migratory Bird Endorsement. This endorsement is required for each hunter participating in the hunt.

  • Shotgun and Ammunition: An appropriate shotgun is essential for dove hunting. Most hunters prefer 12 or 20-gauge shotguns, but personal preference plays a significant role. Make sure to carry a sufficient supply of appropriate ammunition, usually size 7.5 or 8 shot for doves.

  • Hunter Orange: Texas requires hunters to wear a minimum of 400 square inches of hunter orange material above the waist during any general open season for hunting game with firearms. However, this requirement may not apply to those hunting on their own land.

  • Lightweight Camouflage Clothing: Proper camouflage clothing helps hunters blend into the environment and stay concealed from the keen eyesight of doves.

  • Cooler and Ice: Given the warm climate of Texas, it is crucial to carry a cooler with ice to store harvested doves properly. This ensures that the meat remains fresh until it's time to clean and process them.

  • Water and Snacks: Hunting can be physically demanding, so staying hydrated and energized is essential. Carrying enough water and snacks is advisable, especially during longer hunting sessions.

  • Knowledge of Hunting Regulations: Familiarizing oneself with Texas hunting regulations, including bag limits, shooting hours, and other specific rules for dove hunting, is crucial for a safe and compliant hunting experience.

By adhering to these requirements and being well-prepared, hunters can enjoy a rewarding and memorable dove hunting experience in the great state of Texas.
