Sitka Black Deer on Kodiak Island
Kodiak, AK
Your Experience
Sitka Blacktail Deer
Kodiak has also become known for its great deer hunting. This is a really fun hunt and includes sea ducks and fox to round out an excellent experience. Bucks average around 95, though we have taken some award winners up to 120. Why be cramped on a boat with a transporter who can't provide any of the services you want when you can be fully guided with the best accommodations available for the same price? Give me a call and complete that deer slam.

Suggested Schedule
Please confirm your arrival date on your contract.
Clients need to fly into Kodiak (ADQ) 1 day prior to arrival date.
Clients may need to overnight at the Buskin Inn or Kodiak Inn SO THAT …
Clients may be picked up by Andrew Air (907) 487-2566 early in a.m. to obtain licenses and tags at local sporting goods store (if client has not already done so).
Clients may need to obtain brown bear permits from Fish & Game at 211 Mission Rd – Phone 486-1880 (if applicable).
Clients will depart for camp around 12 noon (hunting) or 8 a.m. (fishing) on charter prearranged by outfitter.
Clients will pay for the Andrew Air charter directly with cash, check, or credit card (approximately $426 round trip split with other passengers).
FISH or HUNT.
On departure day, hunting clients will depart camp around 1 p.m. and arrive in Kodiak around 2 p.m.; fishermen will depart at 8:30 a.m. and arrive in Kodiak around 9:30 a.m. Hunters may need to get bear sealed at Fish and Game (if applicable).
Please do not bring cotton, blaze orange, leather, or extra packs, boots/shoes. Do not depend on Goretex for rain gear, it does not work in our environment. Leave your rifle case at the air taxi in Kodiak. Everyone should wear hip boots on the plane. All your gear must fit in your pack. Please be familiar with all your equipment well before your hunt. All gear should be in waterproof bags (Ziplocs) upon arrival.
Please be in the best physical shape you can. We will happily wait for you, unfortunately the game will not. Hunts are not usually extremely physically demanding, upon occasion stalks may be. Hunters into their mid-60's have done fine on my backpack hunts. Physical incompetence is the number one reason hunters do not get their game and/or enjoy their hunts as much as possible. You do not need to be an athlete, but you need to be able to hike 3 to 5 miles with a 40-pound pack. To prepare, I suggest hiking with all the gear you intend to bring plus 20 pounds. This will serve two purposes - it will familiarize you with all your gear, and it will get you in shape. How to hike with your rifle and binoculars and put on and take off hip boots are some of the many details this will cover.
