Waterfowling in the Central Flyway

is something that needs to be on every duck or goose hunters bucket list. Everything is on a grander scale on the wild and wide open plains of Kansas. Big spreads, miles and miles of versatile terrain, huge concentrations of birds, and big weather systems. With a 74 day season and a liberal 6 bird duck limit, 8 bird dark goose limit, and 50 bird light goose limit, there are plenty of gunning opportunities.

Kansas is a diverse and demanding beast. To hunt these birds successfully for 4 months it takes a well organized and efficient group of people that truly study and understand the birds they are chasing. In no other place is the weather such a significant variable. Anyone that has spent anytime in Kansas knows that an 80 degree temperature swing in the winter isn't that uncommon. Being able to understand bird behavior, feeding habits, and truly anticipate what they are going to do is what we do well.

The hunting in Kansas is dependent on the stages of the migration and the area of the state. We are fortunate to cover a large area with our scouting and are able to keep tabs on all the different migration paths within the flyways. Early in the year moist soil lands and marshes can be home to 8-10 different species of waterfowl at one time. As the winter transitions our large reservoirs and watersheds host giant concentrations of dry feeding waterfowl. It's not uncommon to see feeds in the 20-30k range at a given time. Kansas is a prime state to experience some of the most incredible groups of Specklebelly and Lesser Canada Geese anywhere in the Central Flyway. It's no small secret that the mallard hunting in the sunflower state can also be stuff of legend. I can tell you from living it every year, the glory days are NOW.

We are fortunate to have a team of highly talented individuals in camp at any given time. Industry Professionals, Photographers, Videographers, Apparel Designers, Professional Athletes, and Country Music Musicians are all a part of our gifted group of great friends and returning clientele.

We strive to offer an "experience" rather than just a 3 day guided hunting trip. Our midwestern and country values are founded in that anything we do, must be extraordinary and settling for mediocre is simply not an option.

Late Season Goose Hunting [Jan 29th-Feb 18th]

The Kansas Goose season runs until the third Sunday of February. When the weather cooperates, this allows for us to hunt the return migration which is absolutely incredible. The white-front (specklebelly) goose hunting during this time can be absolutely stellar and is a hidden treasure. If you like to see birds work to a call and potentially harvest a trophy barbelly, this is the time to come.

Lodging

Situated in the heart of the Flint Hills grasslands, lies one of the most incredible lodges and hunting camps in all of the midwest. Located on the famous Myers Ranch, this lodge is a built and furnished entirely inside a working ranch barn. The insides are beautifully decorated with authentic and original wood and tin from structures built over 50 years ago. With tall lofted ceilings the atmosphere is truly what dreams are made of.

The lodge features two large living areas with leather couches and western decor, along with HD flatscreen TV's with all of your favorite channels. The kitchen features hand cut hardwood accents and all of the necessary appliances to replicate the comforts of home. The large dining room table features a rich stain to compliment the authentic hardwoods that were cut and milled here right on the ranch. The upstairs area has four large bedroom with windows overlooking the alleyway of the barn. There are four large twin beds in each room with plenty of space for luggage and hunting gear to be stowed away. There are two restroom and shower areas in the lodge that give hunters plenty of privacy to refresh and clean up after a great day in the woods. The open wood burning fireplace in the center of the lodge is a great way to enjoy a cold beverage and reflect on your days.

Rules & Guidelines

When is the best time to book our hunt?  - This is the magic question that is dependent on your goals. The Kansas migration is typically unpredictable but goes somewhat as follows.

  • Early December -Mixed bag ducks over water. Gadwalls, Pintails, Widgeon, Teal, Mallards, Divers. Smaller groups of honkers begin arriving.
  • Mid December - Lesser Canada's arrive by the tens of thousands along with speckle-belly geese offering excellent field hunting opportunity. Mallards also drift into dry field feeding patterns.
  • Late December/Early January - Rivers and creeks begin to offer world class mallard hunting in frigid temperatures. Large concentrations of little geese are feeding on dry fields usually twice a day.
  • Mid/Late January - The Low Plains Late zone re-opens for ducks offering a 10 day blast at birds that have been congregating free of pressure for 20 days. These are the premium dates everyone wants to be a part of
  • Late Season Goose - All of the geese south of Kansas begin migrating back north and stopping for 3-5 days at a time to feed heavily. Most hunters across the state have quit hunting by now and birds begin to group up by the tens of thousands. The return migration is legendary when the weather cooperates.

What should i bring? - Bring clothes to hunt in weather from 0˙ to 75˙. Rubber Boots for muddy fields, or a warm waterproof boot for colder days. Waders aren't a must, but if you have space it's not a bad idea to throw them in. Headlight with fresh batteries. Hand warmers. Headlight. Cooler for meat. Windproof waterfowl jacket. Extra chokes for your gun.

Do you have guns we can shoot? - YES! With proper notice, we can accommodate you with reliable guns to shoot.

Are meals included in our hunt? - Meals are not officially included in your hunt price due to USDA and USFWS regulations. Please inquire with us ahead of time to set up food arrangements that work best for your group.

What do we do with our birds? - You are 100% responsible for properly tagging and transporting your birds with you from the lodge. We do offer a processing service that cooperates with USFWS laws for packaging and transportation for $50 per person for the duration of your hunt with us. This includes documentation in our processing log book, cleaning and packaging, tagged and ready to go home with you. These birds will be breasted, packaged, and ready to be iced down and returned to you. If you do not wish to have us process your birds, you will be responsible for cleaning and transporting with a wing attached according to USFWS law. We DO NOT TOLERATE non compliance of the USFWS law, your birds must be within your possession limit, tagged, and properly terminated.
