Get back to the roots of bird hunting with a no-frills, wild pheasant hunt in the heart of Kansas. You’ll work alongside well-trained pointers and flushers that live for the chase, watching them lock up and push birds sky-high in classic Midwest cover. Russell, Kansas sits in the heart of the Smoky Hills region, where rolling prairies meet pockets of CRP grass, shelterbelts, and crop stubble—ideal habitat for wild pheasants. The landscape is a blend of native grasses, wheat fields, and milo strips, broken up by cedar draws, plum thickets, and hedgerows that hold tight-flushing roosters.

Gentle hills provide good vantage points and easy walking, while creek bottoms and fence lines serve as natural funnels for both birds and dogs. It’s classic Kansas upland country—wide-open, wind-swept, and tailor-made for hard-running dogs and sharp-eyed hunters.

Pheasant hunts include lunch, on-site transportation, and bird-processing. You can bring your own dog, or there are dogs available.

What to Expect
