Description

Tuna fishing is a specialty of Captain Gary, who has been giant bluefin tuna fishing since the ’70’s, and owner/captain of a Gloucester, MA charter since 1984. Gary’s tuna landings span the eastern seaboard. Tuna Hunter is a consistent highliner through the years, as this is Gary’s focus and passion.

Giant bluefin tuna fishing is like big game hunting – careful selection of the fishing sport, research of the tuna paths and migration routes, feeding patterns and habits, selection of the right bait and presentation for the day’s light, weather and sea conditions, all are part of the hunt for a hungry, mighty giant bluefin.

A giant strike is like hooking into a Volkswagen on the highway – these Tuna fish do not nibble! Anglers fight giant bluefin tuna for as long a one’s arm will turn. Able anglers take turns to keep green muscle on the fish, while Captain Gary handles for optimal action and efficiency.

Get a gang together for a gorgeous day of ground fishing in Gloucester, MA and catch food for the family – haddock and cod are fine eating. While cod and haddock fishing there is also the chance of catching giant tuna or sharks, as those species frequent many of our favorite bottom-fishing spots. Whale watching is another side benefit – while fishing we often see whales.

Mako sharks, porbeagles and blue sharks, can all be taken on live bait, jigs, or by kite fishing. Recently we even had great white sharks on our Gloucester fishing grounds.

This Charter is for up to 6 persons. A full day of getting after it! (9Hrs)

We usually depart by 5:00 AM.

Rules & Guidelines

All trips are rain or shine – the fish don’t care if it is wet out! Bring gear appropriate to the offshore marine forecast. High winds and storms may cause cancellations for safety reasons. Captain makes the call. We will be in touch the day before your charter to finalize departure time and/or reschedule if need be.

We provide all bait and meticulously maintained tackle for all fishing charter trips. We provide instruction (as needed) on the use of all tackle and angling techniques suitable to your fishing charter and conditions. Our mates will handle your bait and fish throughout your fishing charter, and fillet and bag your catch at the end of the day. Ice is available at our marina, or at the Mobil Mart next door, for keeping your catch cool on the way home.

  • Tuna over 73" are the boat's property due to federal permitting.
  • Charters who land a Giant Tuna (over 73 inches) may receive 20% of the fish sale price up to the cost of the Charter.

 Packing List

All you need to bring is food and drink for your party for the day, plus personal items:

  • Hats & Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Jackets or Windbreakers (it is always much cooler on the water)
  • Rain gear (if rain or showers are in the marine forecast)
  • Soft soled, non-marking shoes (no black or hard-soled work boots please!).
  • Lightweight long pants, in case of excess sun or biting bugs

Plus, plan for plenty of water and perhaps an extra sandwich or two, since being out on the water works up an appetite.

For those prone to sea sickness, Plan Ahead! We suggest checking out …

  • Bonine
  • Dramamine
  • Sea sickness patches
  • Accu-pressure wristbands

Note that products like Bonine and Dramamine need to be taken before you get on board to be effective – please read and follow the recommended directions.

Heavy partying the night before intensifies any propensity to motion sickness. We suggest saving your heavy celebrating for the night after your big catch.

We request two (2) weeks notice of cancellation of your charter, to allow us to re-book that date.

If we are unable to re-book the date, we will charge a $700 deposit using the mode with which you secured your charter (credit card or check).

If the Captain needs to cancel the charter due to weather or other safety issue, we will notify you as soon as possible. Every effort will be made to make this call with you in consideration of your travel plans to our area.
