FULL-DAY GUIDED FISHING

Leave the boat ramp at 5:30 am and return at sunset.

We will be running guided fishing trips down to Baffin Bay in search of, in our opinion, the best game species of fish the Texas Coast has to offer...the elusive Speckled Trout and the always fun to reel in Red Fish. We will offer half-day or full-day trips and can accommodate up to 5 guests. We will also occasionally run guided trips out of Port Mansfield and Port O'Connor.

WHAT’S BITING

• TROPHY TROUT - Trophy trout are what many anglers on the Texas coast considered to be 28" and above, or a personal best. These large girls fuel our passion every time we cast a lure. If you are lucky enough to land a big one, you will be hooked for life. When it comes to targeting these, we will discuss the details before booking. To catch a trophy trout, we will be chunking an assortment of lures that these large specks tend to eat. A combination of Topwaters and Custom Corkys is our main weapon. On a trip like this, we will fish for hours, looking for one bite.

• SPECKLED TROUT - Speckled trout are the most sought-after fish on the Texas coast. Predatory by nature, these fish attack with a ferocity unknown to many anglers. Once an angler hooks into a speckled trout, there is no going back! Slot limits on these fish are 15’’ and 5 per person per day, and only one over 25’’ per day per angler. These fish are what we target. You can fish for them year-round and especially target big fish in the wintertime when the sows are getting ready to spawn in the spring. Fishing for these requires finding grass beds scattered in sand pockets or rocks that provide structure for the fish to hide and hunt for unsuspecting bait fish. We highly recommend keeping our fair share of "eaters," which is 15-22” while really focusing on releasing the bigger fish so that the hatchery can remain stable. These fish are why you come down, and by far my favorite to target!

  Speckled trout males average 19 inches (48 cm) in length. Females are 25 inches (63 cm) long on average. Males and females weigh 2 to 3 pounds (1 to 1.3 kg). Distinguishing characteristics include a dark gray or green back and silvery-white below, with distinct round spots on the back, fins, and tail; black margin along the edge of the tail; soft dorsal (back) fin with no scales; and one or two prominent canine teeth usually present at the tip of the upper jaw.

• REDFISH - The other target game species we target is the Red Fish! These Fish are very voracious and are characterized by literally eating everything. These guys will put your drag to the test and can be found in the shallows of our bay systems. They are quite the joy to hook into. The daily bag limit is three, and they're quite tasty on the half-shell.

  The slot on these is 20-28 inches, and you’re allowed two fish over 28 inches a year. We keep slot redfish due to their voracious nature that affects trout fingerlings.

  The most distinguishing mark on the redfish is one large black spot on the upper part of the tail base. Having multiple spots is not uncommon for this fish but having no spots is extremely rare. The color of redfish ranges from a deep blackish, coppery color to nearly silver. The most common color is reddish-bronze. Redfish is a fast-growing fish reaching approximately 11 inches and one pound in its first year, 17-22 inches and 3 1/2 pounds in two years, and 22-24 inches and 6-8 pounds in three years. The record redfish was 94 pounds and was caught on the East coast. The current Texas record is 59 1/2 pounds.

• FLOUNDER - Flounder is a great bonus fish for us, not to mention great to eat! The minimum length for these fish is 14", and no limitations on the maximum length. The daily bag limit is 5, with an exception throughout the duration of the breeding season (November 1st - November 30th). At this time, the daily bag limit is restricted to 2. OUR BOAT

• Our boat is a 21’ Haynie Cat. It’s made to run and get up shallow! The Cat drafts 9”, gets up in 12” of water, and runs in about 4-6” of extremely shallow water. The 21 Cat is built with low sides, which makes it perfect if you love to wade fish.

• CROAKER - $10-13/Dozen - Croakers are a brackish to saltwater species ranging from central Florida up the Atlantic coast to around New Jersey and along the northern section of the Gulf of Mexico. Identified most often as the Atlantic Croaker, they have a silvery to gold hue with indistinct lines like stripes on part of their body. From these characteristics, along with the actual croaking sound they make when landed, they are easily recognized.

• SHRIMP - $18/Quart - Dead or alive, fresh or frozen, shrimp are one of the best baits for inshore saltwater fishing. Black drum, bonefish, flounder, grouper, jackfish, pompano, redfish, snook, sea trout, sheepshead, tarpon, and whiting are among the species you can catch with this crustacean There are also several ways to hook a shrimp, depending on whether you’re fishing it live or dead and how you’re presenting it.
