Joe started his outfitter in Bivins, Texas, about nine years ago after finding inspiration on bow hunting trips with his church, First Assembly of God in Vivian, La. Joe runs the ranch with his wife, Bunnie, and their three children. They offer hunts for not only hogs, but whitetail deer, ducks, quail, turkey, rams and exotic deer.
"I had everything to do it but the fence. So I already had the land, a place for my hunters to stay, and I just decided I thought it would be neat," Joe said. "I liked it, I enjoyed it. I just wanted to give it a shot, and so I did." Hunters from around the world have visited the ranch, he said, with one from as far as Finland. Word of mouth initially brought most there, he said, with many returning because of the relaxed and serene atmosphere. "One guy told me, 'I really like coming out here because there's not a bunch of drinking and cussing and hollering going on.' He said, 'It's a good, Christian atmosphere and everything's good,'" Joe said.
